We are delighted to announce that our Academy has joined forces with Everyone Active at Horfield Leisure Centre.

The partnership with the Sports Centre just up the road from the Memorial Stadium will benefit our scholars, who have been without the facilities on offer from Everyone Active since the start of the season.

Academy Manager Tom Curtis, speaking ahead of last week’s first session at Horfield, said; “It’s a big step forward for us because there has been a little bit of a hole in our facility provision at the Academy.

“We will now been able to forge a relationship with Everyone Active at Horfield Leisure Centre which will give the youth team players the opportunity to go and take part in not only team sessions but also individual sessions.

“As part of the Academy programme each of our players is required to have an individual prehabilitation programme for injury prevention, and to increase things such as flexibility, co ordination, strength and power. We give them a programme and we now have a facility for those guys to actually use that programme, which is marvellous for us.

“It also gives us an opportunity to have our injured players taking part in a rehabilitation programme. This season, unfortunately, we seem to have sustained a number of injuries amongst our U-18 side.

“At the moment eight of our 16 scholars are injured, and our Head of Medical, Steve Bissix, will be pleased to be able to use the gym and the fantastic facilities to get people back from injury and back on the training pitch.

“A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes to get this partnership up and running and we are particularly grateful to Stadium Manager Ian Holtby and Gary Teagle, from Everyone Active, for their efforts.”

The aforementioned Gary is contract manager for Everyone Active in Bristol, and he was equally enthusiastic about the new partnership; “Bristol Rovers are on our doorstep so it’s a great community link for us and we are hoping the partnership will work well for both parties and that we develop a good working relationship.

“The Bristol Rovers Academy youngsters have been given a complimentary membership that will give them access to the gym, the swimming pool, and fitness classes.

“In the gym the instructors are on hand to help if Rovers coaches aren’t available and also if they come along to a group exercise class they will be instructed should they want that option.

“Our instructors will work closely with the Rovers coaches and we hope that in time they can help us with Soccer Skills Courses and Football Holiday Clubs.”
