Today Rovers completed the loan signing of Lyle Della-Verde and Darrell Clarke has said that he was a player he was keeping his eye on.
“Lyle [Della-Verde] has come in from Fulham. He is a lad I’ve watched a couple of times for their under 21’s side and he has always impressed me.
“I mentioned him last season to see if we could get him in and he is someone that I’ve kept on the radar.
“With Andy [Monkhouse] suspended for three games and Jake Gosling going away for a couple of games with Gibraltar I thought it was important that we got someone in.
“He can play on either flank, he’s tricky, he is very attack minded and he has loads of potential. So it was a good deal for both the club and the player.
Rovers have also been linked with several strikers, two of which are Matt Tubbs and Lee Hughes, but the Rovers boss won’t be drawn in by speculation.
“I’m in the market for a good striker and those two [Tubbs and Hughes] fit the mould but Matt [Tubbs] is at Bournemouth on loan to Wimbledon and Lee [Hughes] is at Forest Green so I won’t be talking about those players any more than that.
“I’m not going to specifically name any players but as I’ve said before it is difficult in the middle of November to get the certain player that I want in.
“I’ve mentioned before the recruitment here of the last few seasons hasn’t been good enough so we will wait for the right one.
Rovers travel to Prenton Park to take on Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup with the manager eager to see how his side fair against higher league opposition.
“It’s another project and it will be another good game for us.
“Tranmere haven’t had the best of starts in League Two, but they’ve got a new manager and will be looking to get their first win under him on Saturday.
“It is a very tough place to go, but we will go there and give it our best shot and see where it takes us.
“If we get our game going then I’m sure we will give them a difficult game
“They are going to be looking to kick start their season against us and we need to go in wanting to stop that happening.
