The Fifa World Cup begins in Brazil on 12th June and we will be looking at Rovers’ connections with all participating countries.

Two Bosnian players have appeared against Rovers in the Football League. The first was Dzemal Hadziabdič, the holder of twenty full caps with Yugoslavia, who was born in the Bosnian town of Mostar in July 1953 and was in the Swansea City side for both fixtures against Rovers in the 1980-81 campaign.

Asmir Begovič, a goal-scoring goalkeeper with Stoke City in 2013-14, made his Yeovil Town début against Rovers in March 2008 and was also in their side for the September 2008 fixture. He was born in Trebinje in June 1987 and has won nine full caps with Bosnia. He has been selected in the Bosnian squad for the 2014 World Cup Finals.

Nathan Ellington, who married a Bosnian woman, Alma from Tuzla, in 2004, was a striker who scored 35 goals for Rovers in 76(+40) League matches. Born in Bradford in July 1981, he signed for £150,000 in February 1999 and later made high-profile moves to Wigan Athletic and West Bromwich Albion.
