Darrell on the recruitment process

Darrell Clarke has already met with a number of players as he begins to shape his side for next season.

The manager knows which areas need the most strengthening, and in an ideal world he would like to have his squad in place before the start of pre-season training.

He said: “I have met with a few players, and I have more to see. I like to meet players before I make the decision to sign them.

“I don’t want to put a number of how many players I want to bring in or say too much about who I am looking at, I like to keep things close to my chest.

“It is a quiet time at the moment, but we are working hard, and in an ideal world I would like my squad in place before we start back for pre-season training at the end of June.”

Darrell is looking to bring in a mix of youth and experience, and he knows that pace and goals are crucial.

He said: “We know where we need to prioritise, we need more pace and we need goal scorers. I want goals throughout the team.

“It is important to get the right balance in terms of positions, but it is also important to get a good mix of young hungry players and those with experience.”
