WARD - WE LACKED QUALITY AT THE TOP END

21 March 2014

Manager on tonight's 0-0 draw

John Ward described tonight’s 0-0 draw with Southend as a result you can look at in a number of ways.

While the manager knows that some people will be disappointed with the performance, there will also be those who appreciate the point and a clean sheet.

The manager said: “I thought it was probably a dull game of football and a quiet evening for everyone concerned, when we wanted a little bit more life from it.

“You can look at it all ways; you can be disappointed, or you can say we kept a clean sheet and got a point and moved up the division – until tomorrow anyway.

“We found it difficult all round the pitch to get quality at the top end. We have to take what we have got and move on – we have got a point more than we got in the last two games.

“We are fighting a battle and we need everyone on our side.”

The manager believes that his side showed signs of being on edge following last Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of Hartlepool.

He said: “Tonight we couldn’t find that one bit of play that gave us that recovery period.

“It was a little bit uptight, and that causes the crowd to get uptight.

“I think we were a bit edgy, probably because of the disappointment of our last performance, but I thought both teams tried hard but were a bit short of quality at the top end of the pitch.”
