Manager on tonight's defeat

John Ward admits that the quality was missing from his side this evening.

Rovers lost 2-1 to Dagenham and Redbridge at the Memorial Stadium, and the manager believes that a number of players were not at their best.

He said: “It was a bit like after the Lord Mayor’s Show for us, and I had warned against it.

“We played exceptionally well on Saturday, but we didn’t get enough players up to the level of their game over recent weeks.

“We have had six excellent results after our last defeat, and we have not been able to keep it going for one more. That last little bit of quality was missing tonight.

“We had too many people below par and we have got to learn and become more consistent.

“We bounced back after our last defeat and went in to a six game unbeaten run, and we have to try and do that again.”

Looking ahead the manager will be hoping his team can get themselves on another good run, starting with the trip to Hartlepool on Saturday.

He said: “I have never mentioned the play offs, I have left that to other people. We do need to be more consistent, and this proves the point.

“We have had a decent run and now we have to pick up after a defeat and see if we can put another little run together.

“It will be tough as we are away at Hartlepool and then at home to Southend.

“We have a long journey on Friday, but I will look in their eyes and see who looks as if they are ready to go again.

“I am sure a few of our supporters will make the journey as well, and we owe it to them to give a good account of ourselves.”
