Marcus on last night's game at the Corinium Stadium
Following last night’s game against Cirencester Town, in which Rovers fielded a team comprising of triallists and first year pros, assistant manager Marcus Stewart had this to say after the 1-1 draw at the Corinium Stadium.
“There were a number of positive performances and attitudes from the triallists, all of whom have been training with us since our first day back.
“Many of them have other commitments but all have made the effort to come in to train with us every day.
“It was difficult for them out there tonight, as they hadn’t met each other until last week, let alone played a match together.
“However I was pleased with their effort and determination. We might have been a little bit short on quality, but that’s usually the case in the first pre-season game in any case.
“After a tough week of training, this was a good run out and they all did themselves proud in terms of the way they applied themselves and their fitness levels were good.”
There were words of praise, also, for the four first year pro, Jamie Lucas, Danny Greenslade, Aaron Ward-Baptiste and Dominic Thomas, who all had a run out last night.
“They are all young lads who have to improve, but I was pleased with the way they went about their jobs. They aren’t the finished article, by any means, but as long as they are working and practising to be that then I can’t ask for any more.”
Decisions on the triallists who featured last night will be taken over the next few days.
“I’ll be speaking with Darrell and we will be in contact with all of them.
“It would be wrong to make any decisions straight after just one friendly game and we need to collect our thoughts before we inform them.”
