Manager on departing players
Manager Darrell Clarke had this to say regarding Alefe Santos, who has refused a new contract with Rovers.
“I’ve spoken to Alefe’s agent and he tells me that Alefe has decided that his future lies elsewhere, though I’m not sure where that will be.
“We did turn down a bid from Hull City for him and offered him an improved deal with Rovers.
“However he doesn’t now see his future at the Memorial Stadium, but whatever he decides I wish him all the best.
“Wherever he goes we will receive a fee for him, the amount to be decided by tribunal.”
“If I’m honest I believe he still needed to do a lot of work, as he’s not the finished product at the moment.
“I also think it might have benefited him to have stayed another year with us to learn.
“He may well spend a year in a Development squad somewhere and will be competing with a lot of players for a place, so it will be interesting to see how he progresses.”
Another player who won’t be returning to the club is midfielder Alan Gow, whose impressive run of performances was halted when he sustained an ankle injury in the league match at Scunthorpe.
“Alan was offered the opportunity to come in and prove his fitness following that injury.
“That won’t be happening at the moment, as I know he has one or two firm offers from league clubs.
“It’s disappointing for us, but from his point of view a firm offer from a league club is better than what we were able to offer him at this moment in time.”
