Manager on Exeter

John Ward and his team will be fully focussed on the league this weekend, as Exeter City visit the Memorial Stadium.

The manager believes the Grecians will provide a different type of test, and knows that his team will need to be on form again.

He said: “Today is the day to prepare for the next match, but we have a good fitness level.

“It is a different test; Exeter are a good side, they pass the ball well and Paul Tisdale is a thoughtful manager.

“We have got to be on our game, Wednesday we were, and that is something we have to pull in again.

“We have to add goals to our game more often. We threatened the goal quite considerably on Wednesday night, and we have to do that to Exeter on Saturday.

“If we do that, we should now have that extra little bit of confidence that we can find the back of the net more often.

“They are nine points above us in the division, and I am sure they are thinking play offs.

“If we can reduce that gap to six, I am not saying we can make play offs, but we can make the threat underneath us a little bit less serve.”

And with more home than away games coming up, the manager believes that should give his team an advantage.

He said: “We have 23 league games to go, 13 at home and 10 away.

“I didn’t realise we had played that many away, but that said, we have those now hopefully in our favour.

“We have done better at home, and get a good crowd response at home.

“Exeter is a relatively local derby, and on the back of a good away win in the cup, I am sure our fans will be expecting a better performance at home again.”

And the manager that has confirmed that there will be no new players in ahead of tomorrow’s game, but he says that he does have a couple of positive leads to follow.

“There will be no new faces in tomorrow. Yesterday was a busy day for me telephone wise, and we have made some progress, but not in terms of getting a new face in for the weekend.

“We are hopeful that in the next few days we can be a bit more positive.

“I have had a couple of people turn me down, but we have a bit of positivity on a couple that I hope to follow through on over the weekend.”
