Reaction from goalless draw at York

It would seem that at least one new player is on his way to the club this week.

Speaking after this afternoon’s goalless draw against York City at Bootham Crescent, manager John Ward said; “I spoke to the club I’m trying to get the player from and they are hopeful that he will be able to join us next week. The player knows of our interest and wants to come to us, so I hope the signing materialises.”

Of the point and the clean sheet gained from the game, Ward said; “It was a good point for us against a York City side who were better today than the team we faced in the FA Cup.

“I think we are a better team than we were in those games as well, and it doesn’t really surprise me that the game ended goalless as both teams have tightened up really, really, well.

“Away from home, against a team in the form they are in, was a very good point for us.”

Goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall and his defenders deserve praise for the way they went about their business today. Mildenhall made three outstanding saves to deny the home side.

“Steve was outstanding, I have to say, and that’s testament to the work he puts in on the training ground.”

The manager also paid tribute to his two central defenders.

“They both did very well. Tom Parkes is still very young and learning the game, and he had the experienced Mark McChrystal alongside him.

“Mark is an old head, a quiet lad, and has a calming influence on the side which was just what we needed when things got hectic in our penalty box.”
