CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

23 January 2014

Nick on this week's activity

Obviously I must start these notes with a special mention for the 3,000 fans who made the trip to Birmingham last week. It was a fantastic occasion to be involved in, and I was immensely proud when I looked out towards the away end to witness the sea of blue and white that just kept getting bigger and bigger.

On the night I felt the 3-0 score line was a little harsh, as we more than matched Birmingham for most of the game. In the end their superior league position began to tell, and they just had a little too much for us.

However, off the pitch, we were definitely the winners. We showed how passionate and loyal the Bristol Rovers supporters are, and we painted a fantastic picture of our club for all to see.

We returned to league action following that game with a trip to York, which resulted in a hard fought draw.

York were a much improved side from the one we faced earlier in the season, and I was very impressed with the performance of our keeper and our back four, who defended resolutely throughout the game.

As has often been the case this season, it was our work in the final third that let us down, and we are still hoping to remedy that with the introduction of a couple of new faces to bolster the squad during the transfer window.

We now have a couple of important home games coming up, and we need to pick up some points to fire us away from the wrong end of the table.

Our home form has been very good in recent weeks, and I am hoping that can continue this weekend as we take on Newport here at the Memorial Stadium. The league table is so tight at the moment, that a couple of wins will see us in a much more comfortable position.

With games coming thick and fast over the next couple of months, we took the decision to slash prices for Tuesday night’s game against Accrington. We know that times are hard, and we hope this will help a few more of you come down to the Mem to get behind John and the team.

With prices as low as a Quid a Kid and £10 for adults in the Blackthorn End, it really is a great value night out. And we have not forgotten our season ticket holders, who have been able to snap up hospitality for just £12 for this game.

Thank you again for all your amazing support, let’s hope we can get three points on Saturday and make it a happy weekend for the blue and white half of Bristol.
