WARD ON TODAY'S DRAW

8 February 2014

Manager on this afternoon's result

John Ward believes that a draw was a fair result at the Memorial Stadium.

Rovers battled back well after going a goal behind early on, and the manager was pleased with the attitude shown by his side.

He said: “I think we got what we deserved. We made some errors and the conditions were tough, but we made some alterations around the team to try and get forward and get back in the game, and great credit to my players for getting back in the game.

“I thought the team on the pitch were excellent today.

“We know we can improve our game, but we have stuck at it and stood up to a team that are automatic promotion contenders.

“We have to keep at what we are doing, keep working hard, we have another game here on Tuesday, and if we apply the same approach to that game we may get a few more points.

“Attitude, effort and ability in that order. We had the first two today, the third one was at a premium for both teams because of the conditions.

“There is a strength about this group, whatever the conditions we will try very hard to cope with it, and today we have done.”

The manager believes that Alan Gow got better throughout his debut.

He also confirmed that Matt Harrold will be out for a couple of weeks with another flare up of his knee problem.

John said: “Alan got better. I moved him about and I am learning about him, as I just met up with him in the last 24 hours.

“He grew into the game and I thought he had more influence as the game wore on.

“He looks like he is going to be a good acquisition, as will Steven Gillespie when he is fully fit.

“Today chances were at a premium for both sides, but we have tried to improve it, and as long as we can keep working at it, hopefully that can happen. There is a little more of a senior approach to the squad now.”

And now Rovers can go into Tuesday’s game against Cheltenham hoping to build on that result.

John said: “We have given ourselves a little bit of a platform with a point today, and we will prepare a team ready for the next game here, and we will look forward to it.”
