Manager hopes to see a couple of new faces in the next few days

Darrell Clarke hopes to see a couple of new faces arrive at the club over the next couple of days.

Personal terms have been agreed with Jamie Turley, who is being assessed by a specialist this afternoon.

The manager said: “I would like to think there would be one or two coming in the early part of this week, but we will have to wait and see.

“Jamie Turley is here today and is having treatment, then we will be going to see our specialist to see where he is at, and then we will be making a decision on that. Personal terms have been agreed.

“The loan player I want to bring in is an experienced left winger, and I am waiting to hear back from his club to see how much that is going to cost and whether we can afford it.

“I am looking at a big striker today, Duncan Culley, who has done well a few levels below this, and has been on trial at Cheltenham and Oxford.

“He had a great goalscoring record last year at Shortwood, and I am going to have a look at him in training today, so we will see where we go with that.”

And Darrell is delighted to have a fully fit squad going in to that opening game.

He said: “I have a fully fit squad going into the last week of training. Tom Lockyer has a tight hamstring, but I cannot see that being a problem.

“The work ethic and dedication throughout pre-season has been very pleasing.”

And the manager knows which way he wants to go for the opening game of the season.

He said: “I know what I want to do for the opening game, but it won’t just be a plan A, there will be a plan B as well.

“I think it is important in matches to change things if it needs to be changed.

“People who have been to the pre-season games will have seen that it is a different team with higher energy levels.

“I have so much flexibility in my 16 that can enable me to change things, and that was key for my recruitment.

“It is about every player knowing what they need to do, in and out of possession, whatever formation we are playing.”

The full interview will be available on Gas Player shortly.
