John Ward was pleased with the response shown by his players during Saturday's draw against Hartlepool United.
Rovers fell behind before the break, after having taken the lead, and they battled hard to get a last minute equaliser, which the manager thinks they fully deserved.
He said: "I think the response was massive, and it was a major test for the team at half time. There were one or two embarrassed faces in there, as they knew they had slipped up. It was a question of nerve as much as anything else.
"We managed to come back and get the point, which I think is no less than we deserved. It was a strong point to win, and at that late stage in the game there was some calm football played.
"I have got to praise them for coming back, but I complain about them giving the goals away in the first place.
"I am dealing with people, and we make mistakes, but we make them in the public eye, and they count. It is important to build on that and that will give the boys a lift. We have proved hard to beat at home."
And the manager knows that Friday will be a big game, with Southend looking to end a run of defeats.
He said: "We have a Friday night game, which is good, I think Southend is a good place to be and there is always a good atmosphere under floodlights. They are similar to us, I saw them get beat by Scunthorpe, and they could have been a couple up prior to that.
"Phil Brown has publicly had a grumble about his team, and that will stir them up for this Friday, and looking at our away form they will fancy their chances of getting a win. It is a big game for both teams."
Ad the manager hopes to have Ryan Brunt and Garry Kenneth back in contention for Friday.
He said: "I am hoping to have Ryan Brunt back for Friday. I have the stats from the last ten games we have played and we are in good shape apart from goals, we have scored nine and our opponents have scored 15 – that tells its own story.
"To get someone like Ryan Brunt back in and around the team, should help us get the goals level up a bit. Garry Kenneth should also be fine for Friday."
