Manager on draw with Hartlepool
John Ward was pleased with the attitude and effort of this team during today’s 2-2 with Hartlepool.
Rovers took the lead through Matt Harrold, before being pegged back within a minute. The Pirates then found themselves behind, before going on to dominate the second half and get a last minute equaliser from John-Joe O’Toole.
John said: “We made two lapses in that first half which cost us goals, and the rest of the time we have been right in the game, and the second half we dominated.
“We talked about the concentration level, but I have got to be pleased with attitude of my team, because we knew if things went against us it would be an awkward afternoon.
“We went a goal up, and then didn’t touch the ball before they equalised, so it goes from euphoria to the depths of despair, and then right on half time we go in a goal behind.
“We had to really dig deep, and I have to be pretty pleased with that, and we have to show more of it.2
The manager was pleased with the response from his team, but cautioned that there was still a lot to be done.
He said: “I think we enjoyed the goal too much and were still getting back in shape when they lifted themselves for the equaliser.
“It is a learning curve and something we have to work on. We are learning and we are getting better.
“We had a good response in the second period, and the crowd have responded back. When we get like that, this is a really good place to be.
“We have got to live up to a ‘we will get promotion tag’ which was thrown about by everyone but me, knowing that this would be a tough get together season, it is still a job in progress.
“We still have to work at getting this football club as stable as we can, and if we can maintain that attitude we have shown throughout the game, we will improve.”
