Harding and Green on target against Mangotsfield

Mangotsfield United 1
Hunt (61)

Bristol Rovers 3
Green(49), Harding (58 & 70)

An entertaining and hard fought game at Cossham Street tonight saw Rovers beat Mangotsfield 3-1 thanks to goals from Jake Green and Mitch Harding (2).

Rovers started brightly and Harding saw his header from Josh Southway’s cross deflected behind, while Ollie Clarke hit a long range effort wide of the target.

Garry Kenneth then headed straight at goalkeeper Kevin Sawyer as Rovers pressed for an opening goal.

Former Rovers striker Ben Hunt fired wide at the other end and Josh Egen’s shot was comfortably saved by Conor Gough. The keeper then made another routine save, from Hunt.

Rovers were unfortunate not to take the lead on 27 minutes, when Sawyer made a superb save from an Alefe Santos effort.

Marcus Stewart’s side then forced a number of corners in quick succession, but determined defending by the home side kept them at bay.

Jordan Goddard’s effort produced a comfortable save from Sawyer before the break and the game remained goalless at half time.

The second half was only four minutes old when Jake Green gave Rovers the lead. Allowed time and space out on the left, the youngster cut inside before hitting a fierce shot past Sawyer.

The goalkeeper then kept out a shot from Southway after his foray down the right.

Ollie Clarke limped off after 57 minutes and was replaced by Shaquille Hunter, who immediately set up Rovers second goal. His ball in from the left was met by Harding who scored from six yards.

The home side then pulled a goal back through Hunt, who met a free kick from the right and bundled the ball home from close range.

Rovers regained their two goal lead on 70 minutes when Harding applied the final touch after a fine run and pass by Hunter.

The home side then went close through substitute Dave Stone, who fired wide after a good run through the middle.

Sawyer made another fine save before the end, beating out a fierce drive from Harding.
