Player report back for pre-season training

Today the players reported back for pre-season training, and a fitness testing session with Mark Hammond and Phil Kite.

We spoke with last season's skipper Tom Parkes, who is keen to keep hold of the Captain's armband for the coming campaign, and striker Dave Clarkson, who is raring to go now he is back to full fitness.

Parkes says he is looking forward to getting back down to business, and hopes he can remain as skipper of the team.

He said: "It is good to be back, we have all had a good summer, but now it is back down to business. I hate the running, but this is where we all get our fitness from. The next five to six weeks are going to be hard, but it is going to be worth it.

"I am looking to get the club promoted, all the boys want promotion. We have to work hard and if we can carry on what we did the second half of last season we have got a chance.

"I would love to be captain again, I thought second half of last season I did well with the band on. No matter what I always count myself as a captain, but I want to be the main man."

And Clarkson is delighted to be back fit and ready to work hard ahead of the new season.

He said: "I have been looking forward to pre-season this year as I have not played. I am back fit now so I am looking forward to getting back on the training field. I worked right through the break with Phil Kite and Mark Hammond to make sure I was fit and ready.

"I am looking forward to challenging for a spot in the team after being. There is good competition and people fighting for places.

"There is always a an expectation on you, especially if you finish well, but we want to start this season well and hopefully get some momentum. We have to work hard in pre-season and hopefully kick on."

The full interviews with both players can be found on Gas Player.

There will be a full gallery from the training ground when pre-season training gets back in full swing next week.
