CHAIRMAN ON THE FIXTURES

19 June 2013

Nick gives his view on the fixtures

Nick Higgs is hoping Rovers can build on the form they showed in the second half of last season and get off to a flying start in the 2013/14 campaign.

The fixtures were released this morning, and the Chairman was pleased to see Rovers starting off with a local game.

He said: “We knew we would be away on the first game of the season, because of the Balloon Fiesta, but we are really pleased to kick off with a local derby game.

“We then face relegated Scunthorpe at home, and newly promoted Newport away, which should be two interesting games against new opposition.

“It is vitally important to get off to a good start, and we want to build on the performances we showed during the second half of last season.”

The festive period is always important for any club, and Rovers have been handed some good fixtures, including Portsmouth at home on December 21st, Torquay away on Boxing Day and Cheltenham at home on New Year’s Day.

Nick said: “Portsmouth just before Christmas will be a game to look forward to, as will be the trip to their place at Easter.

“Torquay on Boxing Day is a nice short trip, and Cheltenham at home on New Year’s Day will be a great derby game to start 2014.”

And with the fixtures now released, all eyes are on the coming campaign.

Nick said: "All the work we do over the summer will be gearing up for that first game. It is vital to get off to a good start if we aim to be challenging for promotion this season.

“And with the aim to start building the new UWE Stadium in September, it should be an exciting year for Bristol Rovers, both on and off the pitch.”
