Race around the Mem for St Peter's Hospice

Our local hospice has launched a brand new fundraising event for Bristol which will see participants race up 415 steps at the Memorial Stadium to raise much needed funds.

St Peter’s Hospice launched the Stadium Dash challenge, which will take place on Sunday 3 February, with help from players at Bristol Rovers Football Club.

The charity, which is Bristol’s only adult hospice, is asking people to attempt to beat the best time which currently stands at 3 minutes, 15 seconds.

Louisa James, events fundraiser for St Peter’s Hospice said: “We are very excited to be launching a brand new fundraising event in the city! Marathons and walks are fun but the Stadium Dash offers something new and exciting for fundraisers wanting to help out.

“We are encouraging local sports groups, clubs and organisations to sign up for the Stadium Dash and see if they can beat the best time. The Rovers boys have had a go and now so can you!

“Individuals are also welcome to join in and those who don’t fancy being timed can just take part for fun.”

St Peter’s Hospice cares for more than 2,670 patients each year with life limiting illnesses and provides emotional and practical support for their families. Each year it costs £6.8 million to run the hospice with 77% of that coming from public support.

The Stadium Dash is taking place from 10am on Sunday 3 February. First, second and third prizes will be given to the fastest individuals or teams.

Louisa continued: “If you have a competitive spirit this challenge is perfect for you. But the great thing is that anyone can join in; you may not be the fittest or fastest person but all we ask is that you give it your all and raise as much as you can for the hospice!

“Just £20 will buy a memory box to help a child through bereavement while £180 will enable a patient to attend day hospice and £500 will provide 40 hours of care in someone’s own home.

“Fundraising events like this are great fun to get involved with, they give your friends and family a chance to get behind you and you can help support a worthwhile cause.”

The Stadium Dash is £10 per person to enter and participants are asked to raise as much as possible through sponsorship.
