Hartpury College 0-0 Bristol Rovers
Our U-18 side, without a competitive match since the third round of the FA Youth Cup back in December, and with only one friendly match behind them this year, played another friendly fixture, against Hartpury College on Monday.
It ended in a goalless draw, but Youth Team Manager Alan Walsh was glad of the fixture in the build up to Thursday's fourth round FA Youth Cup tie against Birmingham City.
"It was a 9.00am kick off," said Alan, "but the lads really needed a game. We drew 0-0, but it was against the College U-21 side and they fielded a different side in each half, so it was a good test for us.
"The lads did well and passed the ball around well though we didn't really threaten their goal. That was disappointing at times, given the amount of possession we enjoyed.
"On the plus side, we also managed to keep a clean sheet. Matt Macey made one excellent save in the first half but, apart from that, there was very little goalmouth action at either end.
"It was good to get some match time before the Birmingham game and we were very grateful to Hartpury College for providing us with a game at short notice."
Training has been difficult for the side since the turn of the year, due to the inclement weather.
"We have been outside training on the snow, and like a number of teams we have had to improvise. We also spent a couple of days on an astroturf pitch."
His side are looking forward to the match against Birmingham.
"We will go into the game having prepared in a similar way to the way we prepared for the game against Coventry in the last round.
"I went up to see Birmingham play Leicester a few weeks ago and they are a good team with decent players. However, we said the same about Coventry and if we can put our stamp on the game and put them on the back foot, you never know what might happen."
