Kenneth and Brunt on target in friendly game
Bristol Rovers 2
Hereford United 0
Goals from Garry Kenneth and Ryan Brunt gave our reserve side a comfortable victory over Hereford United at the Friends Life Training Ground this afternoon.
The good news, apart from the result, was that the three players returning from injury, Kenneth, Brunt and Matt Gill, all came through the match unscathed with Kenneth completing a full 90 minutes and the other two an hour.
Marcus Stewart’s side were seldom troubled throughout the game and took a sixth minute lead courtesy of Kenneth, who powered home a header from an Alefe Santos corner.
George Rigg fired an effort over the bar, while Hereford’s best chance of the half came on 18 minutes when Chris Sharp headed over from a Chris Pilkington cross.
Brunt went close on the half hour mark when he saw his header, from Gill’s cross, saved by the Hereford keeper, and the striker had two more opportunities before the half ended. The first was a shot that just cleared the bar, and when Shaquille Hunter’s effort rebounded back to him off the bar he again fired over.
Brunt was certainly enjoying his afternoon and saw another effort cleared off the line early in the second half. He wasn’t to be denied, though, and swept home the second goal of the game following Hunter’s cross from the right.
Shortly afterwards he and Gill were taken off, to be replaced by Jamie Lucas and Danny Greenslade.
Rovers continued to have the upper hand and seldom looked in any danger of conceding in what was a very entertaining game, though they were denied a third goal by goalkeeper Lloyd Weston, who made a fine save from Hunter.
