Manager on today's draw.

John Ward was pleased to see his side pick up their first point of the season and keep a clean sheet against Scunthorpe this afternoon.

And again the manager was impressed with the effort and commitment shown by his side.

He said: “It is a slight mixed feeling, because you want to win your home games, but at the same time you don’t want to get beat.

“It was a really tight game and Brian Laws will have cause to say he could have won it and I have similar shouts. I cannot grumble about their attitude and work rate, we just have to play a bit better.

“I am pleased we are off the mark, that is a plus for the players and the supporters who have stayed with us over these last three matches.

“We cannot try any harder in the three games we have had, and that is the bottom line. Whoever goes out there, whether it is a 17 year-old making his debut or a senior pro, they give their all and that is what we have to do.”

The manager confirmed that Tom Parkes was taken to hospital with concussion after he was knocked unconscious during the game.

John said: “Tom has got some concussion and has been taken to hospital for observation, so we have to deal with that.

“That means the team had to change and our plans were altered, but we have to cope with that, and we did.”

And the manager had words of praise for the youth department coaches.

He said: “We have to pay real tribute to our youth coaches who have nurtured and brought these young players through.

“They are sticking the shirt on and giving it their best and the supporters appreciate that.

“We have a game for the younger lads who haven’t played on Tuesday down at Exeter, as we have to give them their football.”
