Manager on win over Northampton.
John Ward was delighted to see his side record back to back wins at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon.
The manager was especially pleased with the professional manner his team showed throughout the game.
He said: “It is a great result, and we can enter the next game with confidence. I am really pleased with the effort and the way the boys went about the job today.
“It would have been easy to get side tracked by what is happening on Wednesday, but we haven’t, and they have gone about their business in a professional manner.”
And the manager believes that the win can be attributed to two key moments from man of the match Tom Lockyer.
He said: “The goal was a quality goal, and the day belongs to Tom Lockyer as there were two major incidents in the game; his goal and at the end of that half when he cleared a ball from under our cross bar.
“For a young boy he has learned massively well and earned us the win today.”
Ryan Brunt was forced to leave the game early in the first half after taking a knock to the ankle, but it seems the striker won’t be out for too long.
John said: “Ryan has a knock on his ankle, there is some swelling and he is on crutches, but it is all protective.
“It looks a bit awkward, but with the determination he has got he could even be back for Wednesday.”
And now next up for Rovers is the big derby game against Bristol City at Ashton Gate, and John will be taking his team there to try and win.
He said: “It is good draw for the supporters. I have to go and try and win the game, I am the manager of Bristol Rovers going to Ashton Gate, I cannot let our supporters down.
“The next four days the whole of Bristol will be talking about red and blue and who is going to win.
“I saw them play on Tuesday and they are a good team, we will try very hard to stay with them.
“It is a good night and I hope everyone behaves themselves and enjoys the football, because for me that is what it is all about.”
