Development Coach pleased with the way his side played
Development Coach Marcus Stewart was pleased with the way his side went about their task in this afternoon’s friendly fixture against Hereford United.
Goals from Garry Kenneth and Ryan Brunt sealed the victory and Marcus said afterwards: “I was very pleased with the way we played. I asked the lads to be on the front foot, defend from the front, and to get forward as often as they could and that’s what they did.
“We had a number of goalscoring opportunities and to do the type of job I asked the boys to do, you have to be fit. I’m sure the more experienced lads, who have been out for a while, will have felt the benefit of their run out this afternoon.
“We limited Hereford to long range opportunities and took the game to them. We won the ball back, more often than not, in the Hereford half of the pitch which was pleasing, and it was good to see Garry Kenneth and Ryan Brunt on the scoresheet.
“It was also good to see those two and Matt Gill come through the match unscathed.”
While a number of the young lads impressed, it was Alefe Santos who caught the eye with a fine display. Playing out wide on the right, the youngster supplied a stream of crosses into the area which might have led to further goals.
“Alefe did well. He’s a small lad with a big heart, but I have to say that all of the other lads also did well. They applied themselves in the right way and did all I asked of them.
“I think they are benefitting from playing regular games. We have another friendly next week, against Bournemouth, and two cup ties and a friendly next month which will help the lads maintain their match fitness.”
