Midfielder on Fleetwood and competition for places
Midfielder Oli Norburn says that although the team were disappointed not to come away from Saturday’s draw with Fleetwood with all three points, they were pleased with the overall performance.
He said: “We were attacking well and I am a little bit upset that we didn’t come away with three points, but all the lads are happy with the performance, and hopefully we can kick on now.
“Some of the lads feel they could have finished their chances, and I could have done better with mine as well, but these things happen.
“I think we are just unlucky at the moment, we are playing good football and hopefully we can kick on from that performance.
“It is hard playing against teams who come here and shut up shop, but as you saw on Saturday we kept pushing and pushing and were playing good football and we were just unlucky.”
On a personal level, Oli is pleased to have claimed a place in the starting 11.
He said: “I am happy to be starting now, I just want to keep my place in the team and hopefully kick on with more good performances.
“It is a team game and I believed I would get my chance. When I got my chance I thought I would be able to take it, and hopefully I am doing that.”
Midfield is one part of the team where there is competition for places, so Oli knows he has to keep performing to his best.
He said: “Competition is healthy. There are a number of good midfielders here and I believe that whoever does play will perform, I am just happy that it is me at the moment and I hope to stay in the team.
“Hopefully you will see some goals from me, I will just keep bombing forward and hopefully they will come.”
Looking ahead to Exeter, Oli is hoping for the side’s first three points.
He said: “Exeter will be a good test, but with the last performances we have had I don’t see why we cannot go there and come away with all three points.
“We feel that if we do come away with three points we can go on a little run. It is early doors, it is a long season, but hopefully the results will start coming.
“A clean sheet gives everyone confidence. The back four were class on Saturday; Garry and Parkesy look like a strong partnership, so hopefully we can all just be consistent now and carry it on.”
