Neil Etheridge and Joe Anyinsah start for Bristol Rovers this afternoon.
Etheridge, the Philippines international goalkeeper, will make his first start for Rovers after joining on loan from Fulham on Thursday.
Mark McGhee had this to say about him before this afternoon’s game: “I brought Neil Etheridge from Fulham for a bit of competition
“I felt as if I needed to put a little bit of pressure on Sam, I think I am entitled to have competition for any position in the team.
“Sam is staying with us, he is disappointed obviously, but he is prepared to roll up his sleeves and put Neil under pressure.
“Neil is confident keeper, he is an intelligent boy, and a communicator on the pitch.
”He is a good kicker, he will come for crosses and is a mixture of everything the boys saw his shot stopping abilities at training yesterday, so we look forward to seeing him.”
Mark also made the decision to start Joe Anyinsah up top with David Clarkson.
He said: “Joe has been frustrated, but Joe and I have an understanding. I think Joe has the potential to be an effective player for us, but he has to perform and today is a big day for him, he has to help us to a win today, he has got to bring his strengths to the game.
“The injury to Matt Harrold means I have to make a decision between Eliot Richards and Joe, and I think to give Clarkson the sort of foil he needs at the moment, I have gone for Joe.”
And the manager says his team will respect Fleetwood as they would any other team in the league.
“We have respect for Fleetwood and what they have achieved so far, so we will treat them the same as we treated Gillingham who were top of the league.
“We will try to go about our business in a professional way, but it will be their first time here and we hope the Mem can help us to a victory.”
