MARK ON ALDERSHOT

6 September 2012

Manager's Thursday press briefing

Rovers manager Mark McGhee is looking for his side to bounce back from successive home defeats at the hands of Morecambe and Yeovil when they take on Aldershot Town at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday (kick off 3.00pm).

Although beaten by Yeovil in Tuesday night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie, he was encouraged by the performance in that game..

“We will be looking to build on our performance against Yeovil. It was another disappointing result, but I still feel that we played ever so well and the only complaint I have about the game is the result.”

As well as looking for their first three point haul of the season, Rovers will be looking to score their first goal at the Memorial Stadium.

It’s not a major concern and although we haven’t scored in the three home games to date, I think we have goals in this team. We had what I thought was a legitimate goal disallowed on Tuesday, and we scored three in the abandoned game at Wycombe and gained confidence from that.

“It would be nice if we could score an early goal on Saturday, because that would give everyone confidence. Until we do score, we will be under pressure and be criticised by the fans.”

Supporters can expect a number of teams to come to the Memorial Stadium and set up as Morecambe did last Saturday.

“I’m sure that we will see some teams set up in the same way and that makes it difficult to break them down. However if we are unable to score then we should be able to keep a clean sheet. We do have to be patient, though, if a team sets up defensively and our supporters can help by getting behind us if that happens. “

In terms of team news, the manager expects to have Matt Harrold available for selection after he missed the Yeovil game through injury. The striker was back in training this morning and, assuming he suffers no reaction then he will be available for selection.

Seanan Clucas and Matt Lund will again miss out, though, as both are on international duty with the Northern Ireland U-21 squad.

The full interview with Mark is now on Gas Player, as is an interview with striker David Clarkson
