Young keeper on last night's game
Goalkeeper Sam Walker declared himself pleased with his Rovers debut against Ipswich last night, but expressed his disappointment that the side didn’t take something from the game.
“I think it was just one of those nights and although I was pleased, on a personal level, I was disappointed that we couldn’t hold out for something. We believed we could come here and get a result and, at 1-1, it was still looking that way.
“Whilst it was disappointing, though, they had a bit of class and they finished well.”
The shot stopper, who spent part of last season on loan at Yeovil, was only just signed in time to play in last night’s Capital One Cup tie.
“There were a number of phone calls flying to, and from, my house the evening before the game and I didn’t sign the appropriate forms until the morning of the match and I didn’t head up to meet the team until early afternoon.”
It was always his intention to seek a loan move this season and he’s with us until January.
"I went back into Chelsea at the start of the season and they said they would like me to do a pre season with them, but that I was free to go back out on loan once that was done and dusted. I think this is a great opportunity for me and one that I’m looking to take with both hands.
“I know a little bit about the club and know the area fairly well, thanks to my time at Yeovil in the second half of last season, and I’ve heard a lot of good things about the club.
“It seems to be a really nice bunch of lads here, who have made me feel very welcome. It can be difficult going straight into a side sometimes, as I did tonight, but I have to say that they were really good to me tonight.”
