Ex players to attend the game on Saturday
Former Bristol Rovers stars Martin Thomas and Vaughan Jones will be the special guests of honour for the Bristol Rovers v Morecambe clash at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
The two Rovers favourites have been invited back to the Mem for what is part of the Bristol Rovers supporter’s exciting matchday experience.
Former Rovers star and Community Manager, Pete Aitken, will host the two players and their guests during their visit.
Their programme will include a question and answer session in the Dribuild Suite with Ian Holtby. Then again at half time, they will be invited by Nick Day for a further question and answer session on the pitch as well as making the 50/50 draw.
At the end of the game, Martin and Vaughan will then join Rovers supporters in the Supporters Club bar to meet fans and sign autographs.
Martin joined Rovers as a goalkeeper in the youth side. He made his 1st team début on 3 January 1977 as a substitute for Jim Eadie at Charlton Athletic, and turned professional in September to go on to rightly become Rovers' first-choice goalkeeper making 162 appearances.
He faced competition for his jersey with England youth goalkeeper and current Rovers physio Phil Kite, before going on loan in spells at Cardiff, Spurs and Southend. He left Rovers in 1983 to join Newcastle United for £50,000.
Martin won 2 Under 21 caps and 1 full cap for Wales. He was also played a part of the England U21 coaching staff which took the team to the semi-finals of UEFA under 21 Championship in 2007.
Vaughan was an outstanding defender who played for Rovers in different spells. Firstly, between 1977-1982 when he made 101 appearances and scored 3 goals.
He then returned on loan in 1984. Then again between 1985 and 1993, when he made a further 280 appearances and scored 9 goals.
Vaughan went on to play for Cardiff and Newport and Bath City before finishing his playing career at Cheltenham. He went on to become Rovers youth coach before becoming Assistant Manager at Bath in November 2003.
Vaughan was Welsh youth international and also attained two Under-21 caps for Wales.
Brian Seymour-Smith said, “We are delighted both Martin and Vaughan have kindly accepted our offer to join us as our guests for the day. Both former players have always been firm favourites with our supporters and I know our fans will be delighted to welcome them back.”
