Match Previews

Match Preview | Rovers v Stevenage

24 October 2023

Rovers host Stevenage tonight in the first of three home games in a row down at The Mem.

After being promoted last season, Stevenage have enjoyed life in League One so far, with striker Jamie Reid hitting the ground running on 8 goals in the league in the 2023/24 season.

Rovers will be looking to bounce back from the 4-1 defeat against Burton on Saturday and boost their current league standing.

Manager Preview

Joey Barton said: "Saturday’s game was extremely frustrating for everyone. You Gasheads have been outstanding all season and deserve to see the results we are all striving for.

Tonight is a chance to put things right. This League is wide open and we have to take our opportunities if we want to climb up the table."

Match Report | Rovers 1-1 Stevenage

24 October 2023

The points shared at The Mem as Rovers come back to equalise against a well-organised Stevenage side.

Joey Barton made five changes from the side that started at Burton as Jevani Brown, Sam Finley, Tristan Crama, Lamare Bogarde and Luca Hoole all came into the side.

The first half started well for Rovers when Sam Finley won a couple of free kicks but to no avail.

Rovers' best opportunity came when Jevani got played through and almost rounded the 'keeper as he came running off his line to try and intercept and eventually cleared the ball.

The next chance came for Stevenage when Cox stood firm to deny their first chance of the game as the ball was then fired high over the bar from the rebound.

The first goal of the game came in the 41st minute when a mix-up at the back allowed Reid to fire home to give the visitors the lead in front of the Thatchers End who firmly believed the Rovers 'keeper was fouled.

The second half saw Josh Grant and Lamare Bogarde replaced by Harvey Vale and George Friend.

As the action got back underway Rovers started very positively, spearheaded by half-time substitute Harvey Vale, who almost got the hosts back level.

Frenchman Tristan Crama almost got Rovers back into the game with a header which just sailed over the bar from a corner.

In the 83rd minute, Chris Martin made The Mem erupt with a long-ranged lob to catch the Stevenage 'keeper off his line and put Rovers back level.

Rovers continued to apply pressure but the ball wouldn't quite fall for the hosts and the game ended with both sides sharing a point.
