A member of the England 'C' squad, for whom he scored three goals in games against Hungary and Sparta Prague 'B' in May 2014, Matty arrived at the Memorial Stadium from Forest Green Rovers the following month.

He began his career with Oxford and went on to join Southern League South & West Division outfit North Leigh for whom he scored 80 goals in two seasons.

In September 2011, after a trial with Cheltenham Town, Matt signed for Forest Green Rovers and scored ten goals in his first season at the New Lawn.

In 2013/14 he scored six goals in seven games for Chester City whilst on loan with them.

Matty made his debut for Rovers on the opening day of the 2014/15 season in a 0-0 draw against Grimsby Town and scored his first goal for the club in the 3-1 win against Nuneaton Town on 16th September.

He ended the campaign as the club’s top scorer, with 21 goals in all competitions, and an appearance at Wembley in the Promotion Play Off Final.

Last season, his first ever as a Football League player, he scored 28 goals a total that included two hat tricks.

His form, and goalscoring record, not surprisingly, saw a number of clubs express an interest in signing him during the summer but he committed himself to the club, scoring on the opening weekend of the season against Scunthorpe United.
