Rovers ran out 3-2 winners in a behind closed doors friendly at Edgar Street this afternoon.
A hard working performance saw Rovers twice take the lead, though they were pegged back by the home side on both occasions.
David Pipe, in his first game back after suffering a hamstring injury at Leicester on 1st November, skippered the side while Richard Langley and Ben Hunt were in the starting lineup.
Rovers created an early chance when Sean Rigg picked up the ball in his own half and made a surging run into the Hereford penalty area, only to see his shot deflected behind for a corner.
It was 15 minutes before the home side troubled Rovers, but then goalkeeper Mike Green did well to touch a shot from Moses Ashikodi over the bar.
The same player saw another shot blocked and hit a ferocious free kick straight into Rovers' defensive wall as the home side probed for an opening.
It wasn't until the half hour mark that Rovers again threatened the home goal but Rigg's shot, from the edge of the area, was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Chris Weale.
Liam Harwood then headed over from a Charlie Reece free kick and Josh Klein-Davies skied a long range effort over the bar before seeing a much better effort deflected behind for a corner.
Rigg also saw a shot deflected behind and from the resulting corner Rovers gained a penalty when Gary Breen handled and Josh Klein-Davies stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way with his spot kick.
There was one more chance for Rovers, in the final minute of the half, when Klein-Davies set up Reece whose shot was comfortably saved by Weale.
Both sides made changes at the break, with Adam Mahdi replacing Richard Langley for Rovers and Chris Weale making way for Craig Samson in the Hereford goal.
It wasn't until the hour mark that the first chance of the second half arrived and then Green did well to hold on to Simon Johnson's glancing header.
Johnson hit another effort over the bar and the home pressure paid off when they equalised on 65 minutes when Nick Chadwick headed past Green following a corner from the left.
Having weathered a spell of pressure from the home side Rovers regained the lead on 72 minutes. Klein-Davies was fouled some 25 yards from goal and Reece stepped up to drive his shot beyond the reach of Samson.
However the home side were back on level terms within four minutes after Harwood was adjudged to have fouled Chadwick in the area. The referee awarded a penalty, and Ashikodi comfortably beat Green from the spot.
Rovers scored what proved to be the winning goal in the final minute of the game. Following a corner on the left Harwood touched the ball into the area and the ball went into the net off a Hereford defender.
