In May 2006, two weeks after scoring the goal that took Hereford United back into the Football League, in the Conference play off final against Morecambe, Ryan signed a two year contract for Rovers.
His career began at Wolves, though he made just 8 league appearances whilst at Molineux. He played 10 games for Torquay, whilst on loan at Plainmoor in 2001, and joined Millwall in October of that year.
He made thirteen appearances whilst at the New Den before joining Cardiff City in the summer of 2002. His stay at Ninian Park was short lived, though, and he moved to Hillsborough to sign for Sheffield Wednesday in November 2002.
He moved to Hereford in the summer of 2003and appeared in 91 Conference games for the Edgar Street outfit.
Ryan made his Rovers debut on the opening day of the 2006/07 season when going on as a second half substitute at Peterborough. His full debut came against Grimsby, at the Memorial Stadium, just one week later.
He appeared in 33 league games for Rovers that season, a total which would have been more had he not been injured in a league game at Grimsby. That kept him out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final, but he was back in the side for the play off final against Shrewsbury at Wembley.
Ryan missed much of the last season with an Achilles injury and spent part of the summer at Lilleshall in order to complete his rehabilitation programme before joining his colleagues for the start of pre season training.
At 17, Ryan became youngest ever player to win a full Welsh international cap and he went on to win a second cap and is the holder of 16 U-21 caps.
A right back who distributes the ball well, he is also effective both as a defender and when going forward to support the attack.
