The Birmingham born striker joined the club in the summer of 2004, but didn't really become a first team regular until February 2005. From then, until the end of the season, he scored 12 goals, and ended the campaign with 15 in all competitions.
Offered a new two year deal in the summer of 2005 the former Aston Villa trainee proved his worth in 2005/06, when he hit the back of the net 21 times.
Twenty of those goals came in the league and he became the first Rovers player, since Jamie Cureton in 1999/2000, to achieve that feat.
He appeared in every game played by the club and his consistency, his goals, and his ability to set up chances for others deservedly won him the Supporters Club Player of the Year Award.
He bettered that tally in 2006/07, scoring 23 goals in 61 games and, along with Sammy Igoe, became one of the two Football League players to score in major finals at the Millennium Stadium and Wembley in the same season.
He formed an excellent strike partnership with Rickie Lambert and signed a new deal to keep him at the Memorial Stadium for a further two years.
Last season he scored just four goals, all from the penalty spot, and found himself on the substitutes bench more often than not. In all, he made 24 league appearances, 12 of which were from the bench and in the summer of 2008 he left to join Shrewsbury Town on a season long loan.
During his time at Villa Park, he made 6 league appearances and spent time on loan at Cambridge United, Blackpool and Wycombe Wanderers before returning to Blackpool on a permanent basis, in December 2001, for a fee of £50,000.
He made played in 62 league games in his second spell at Bloomfield Road, to add to the 18 appearances he made there during his loan spell. However he was often used as a substitute by Blackpool, and spent time on loan at Northampton and Oxford in season 2003/04.
Richard made a substitute appearance in Blackpool's LDV Vans Trophy win over Cambridge, at the Millennium Stadium, in March 2002 and scored his first Rovers goal in a First Round Carling Cup Tie, against Brighton, in August 2004.
Richard will spend the current season on loan at Shrewsbury Town.
