Rovers recruited former Plymouth Argyle defender Gary Sawyer in the summer of 2010, in the face of strong competition from a number of clubs.
The 25 year old, born in Bideford, came through the ranks at Home Park and enjoyed loan spells with Weymouth and Exeter City before making his league debut for Plymouth in August 2006.
He went on to make 95 league appearances for the Pilgrims and two more for
Bristol City, whom he joined on loan at the end of the 2009/10 campaign.
Although he was offered a new deal by Plymouth at the end of the season, Gary chose to move to Rovers, indicating that he felt his career would benefit from a move away from Home Park.
A defender who can pass the ball well and likes to get forward, he can play as a central defender or at left back, which is his preferred position.
Gary made his league debut for Rovers on the opening day of the current season and went on to make 37 league appearances during his first season at the Memorial Stadium.
