Lewis was with Southampton's Academy as a schoolboy and was a prolific goalscorer for them, where his coach was our current Centre of Excellence Director, Stewart Naughton, who confirms that he was an outstanding talent at a very young age.
When Stewart joined Rovers, he was asked to watch Lewis again following his release by the Saints. The young striker made an immediate impression and was asked to join the club as a scholar.
At the beginning of the 2003/04 campaign, he was placed on work experience with Dr Martens League outfit Clevedon Town, though he trained with the first team and played for our reserves.
His first taste of league football came in 2003/04, when he scored five goals, but although he signed a new contract in the summer of 2004, he made just one start in 2004/05. However he did score the all important goal at Brisbane Road which saw Rovers through to the LDV Vans Trophy Area Final at the expense of Leyton Orient.
He made 16 appearances from the bench, in all competitions, and enjoyed a loan spell with Conference outfit Forest Green Rovers towards the end of the campaign, but his future at the club appeared to be in doubt when former boss Ian Atkins allowed him to go out on loan to Forest Green Rovers again at the start of the 2005/06 season.
When Paul Trollope was appointed as caretaker manager, he brought Lewis back to the Memorial Stadium. Handed a start at Rushden & Diamonds, in the club's first game of 2006, he became a regular member of the squad from that point.
Season 2006/07 was his best, by far in a Rovers shirt and he was a regular member of the first team squad, playing wide on the right or the left, where his pace caused problems for opposing defenders.
Last season he made a total of 32 league appearances, 10 of which were from the bench, and he will be looking to add a little bit of consistency to his game this time around.
He has tremendous pace and likes to get in behind defenders, whilst also possessing a keen eye for goal.
Lewis signed a new three year deal in the summer of 2007, but will spend the current season on loan at Oxford United.
