Byron graduated through the ranks With Cardiff City, and signed his first professional contract in July 2003.
The central defender faced strong competition for a first team place at Ninian Park as the likes of Danny Gabbidon, James Collins and Spencer Prior were at the club.
Lennie Lawrence, now Director of Football at Rovers, handed him his first team debut in a Carling Cup Tie against MK Dons in September 2004 and he scored in his side's 4-1 win. He made a substitute appearance in the next round of the competition, against Bournemouth, and scored in the penalty shootout that followed a 3-3 draw.
Released by Cardiff at the end of the 2005/06 season, he spent the entire pre season on trial at the Memorial Stadium and was given a one year contract just before the start of the 2005/06 campaign.
The tough tackling defender made his debut in the home win against Grimsby on 12th August and quickly established himself as a regular member of the first team squad. Injured in the final league game of 2007, he spent a while on the sidelines and had to be content with a place on the bench for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final.
On his eventual return to the side, any disappointment he had about missing the game at the Millennium Stadium was forgotten as he played a major part in the play off final victory against Shrewsbury at Wembley.
He was rewarded with a new two year contract, which was extended again last season, which will keep him, at the club until the summer of 2010. He missed a number of games during 2007/08 due to a broken metatarsal suffered in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against Bournemouth.
He looks set to become a regular at the heart of defence, and many tip him to be a future Rovers skipper.
He has found the back of the net once in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and once in the FA Cup, whilst his solitary league goal for Rovers was scored against Nottingham Forest, on 1st September 2007.
A former Welsh Youth international, Byron has also won 8 U-21 caps for his country.
