Bristol Rovers were beaten by League Champions Norwich at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon.
In the final home game of the season, the winners of League One beat Rovers 3-0 in front of a good crowd.
Manager Paul Trollope was forced to make one change to his starting line up for this afternoon's match. Danny Coles missed out due to suspension, but Byron Anthony returned from injury to replace him at centre back.
Sixteen-year-old striker Lamar Powell joined up with the first team squad and took up a place on the bench for today's game.
Lamar has scored a total of 13 goals this season, three for the U-16's and ten for the U-18's and will be joining the club as a scholar at the start of next season.
Jo Kuffour, who has been suffering with a rib injury, also takes a place on the bench.
Rovers had the best of the opening exchanges, with Charlie Reece coming close to opening the scoring early on. The youngster hit a low shot through a crowded penalty area which Norwich keeper Fraser Forster got a hand to.
The home side were passing the ball around well and looking lively in the first 15 minutes. Chris Lines had a shot from distance that flew wide.
Norwich then had a chance when Rovers lost possession of the ball, Stephen Elliott made a run into the box, but his weak shot flew wide of the post.
Ben Swallow and Charlie Reece again worked well down the sides for Rovers, and Swallow whipped in a good cross from a Bristol Rovers corner, but Darryl Duffy could not quite get on the end of it.
Norwich then opened the scoring after Daniel Jones gave away possession just outside Rovers box. Byron Anthony put in a good tackle to clear the ball, but it only went as far as Chris Martin, who slid the ball past Mikkel Andersen and into the bottom left hand corner.
At the other end Swallow's cross managed to evade everyone on the way towards goal, but it flew harmlessly wide.
Rovers came under a bit of pressure after Norwich's goal, and the Canaries managed to double their lead just before the break.
Oli Johnson came on to replace the injured Stephen Elliott and managed to score with his first touch of the game. The substitute tapped the ball past the advancing Andersen, and Jones, who was racing back, could not get there in time to stop it hitting the back of the net.
Johnson nearly doubled his tally just after the restart, when his curling shot flew just over the right hand upright.
Byron Anthony almost got one back for Rovers, he got his head onto the end of a cross, but the bullet header flew just wide of the target.
Johnson again troubled the Rovers defence, and this time Mikkel Andersen had to make a good save with his feet to keep the sub from scoring his second.
Rovers then had a couple of half chances, Chris Lines hit the wall with a free kick, and Andy Williams hit a shot high over the bar. Swallow and Reece then combined well and switched the ball across the field, but Williams headed wide from the resulting cross from Reece.
Eliot Richards then made his second home appearance for Rovers, coming on to replace Andy Williams.
With 20 minutes to go Norwich made it 3-0. Martin got the ball into the box, past Andersen and Stephen Hughes was on hand to side foot the ball into the back of the net from close range.
Charlie Reece sent a shot straight at Fraser Forster as the Rovers faithful kept up the singing and atmosphere right through the game.
Richards came close to opening his account for Rovers. Swallow crossed the ball into the box, but Richards' first touch went just wide.
Rovers best effort of the game came in the closing stages, Swallow again whipped a cross into the box, and Duffy's header bounced onto the cross bar.
In the closing stages Rovers kept trying to find the back of the net, but to no avail. Duffy played the ball into the path of Swallow, who set the ball up for Richards, only for the youngster to be dispossessed.
That was it for another season at the Memorial Stadium, and as it was the last home game of the campaign, Rovers then came out to thank the fans for the support over the past nine months.
