Rovers left it late to take all three points against Oldham at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon.
Jo Kuffour's 90th minute goal was all that separated the teams during this unremarkable encounter.
Paul Trollope stuck with the side that beat Millwall at the Memorial Stadium last week, which meant Mark Wright and Mikkel Andersen get their second starts for the club.
Rovers dominated for large portions of the game, but had to wait until the bitter end to break down a hard working Oldham side.
New signing Wright had Rovers best chance of the first half. A free kick eventually found him in the box, but his shot was hit high over the bar.
Jeff Hughes, Rovers' player of the match for the second week running, came close to getting his name on the score sheet after some good work down the left, but his low shot was easily collected by keeper Dean Brill.
Some good work from Carl Regan denied Oldham the chance to open the scoring half way through the first half. Stirker Pawel Abbot got a shot under Mikkel Andersen in the Rovers goal, but Regan was on hand to pull off a goal line clearance.
Frustration threatened to boil over after Alex Marrow was booked for a challenge on Andersen, but the game was able to get back underway after a brief stoppage.
Chris Lines shot high from the edge of the penalty area as Rovers tried to find a break through in the run up to half time.
Rovers started the second half hungry for a goal, and a Stuart Campbell long range shot almost fooled Brill, who recovered to parry the shot, but Chris Lines was not able to do much with the loose ball.
Andy Williams recorded another impressive performance when he replaced Darryl Duffy just after the hour. Williams and fellow substitute David Pipe linked up well together to create a number of half chances in the second half.
Dominic Blizzard was also introduced to the game shortly after to try and add some extra attacking options to the side.
David Pipe, who worked hard down the right, put a good cross into Jo Kuffour, who could not quite control the ball, and Oldham easily cleared it.
But it was the impressive Williams who laid the ball into Jo Kuffour for the last minute winner, the pacy striker firing homefrom the edge of the box.
Oldham searched desperately for an equaliser as extra time ticked away, and Stuart Campbell did well to stop substitute Keigan Parker getting a shot away.
Rovers now sit third in the table, with an away trip to Brentford to come next week. Gasheads will be able to enjoy the rest of the weekend with a smile on their faces.
