CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

Posted on: Thu 02 Sep 2010

Saturday was a very disappointing day for everyone involved with Bristol Rovers.

We all knew before the game that Southampton would provide tough opposition, but unfortunately some of our players seemed to let that fact get to them and proceeded to allow the Saints to run riot.

We are all very aware that something needs to be done, and quickly, to halt the bad run of form that has blighted the start of our season.

I believe that the talent is there, but for some reason, things have not yet clicked into place. I can assure you that there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to make sure results like Saturday's do not happen again.

As a dedicated Rovers fan these performances hurt me just as much as they hurt you, and they will not be tolerated.

On a more positive note, we were pleased to bring Bristol City striker John Akinde to the club on loan. John is just the sort of player we have been looking for, and should fulfil the target man role perfectly.

He is a big strong player, who can hold up the ball, and he will give us different options up front.

He is initially here until the beginning of January, but if it all goes well, there may be an option to make things more permanent.

We also secured the services of Mikkel Andersen for another four months. We considered ourselves very unlucky when Luke Daniels succumbed to an injury at the start of the season, but we were delighted that Reading let us bring Mikkel back to the club.

The big Dane has a great attitude and quickly became a fan's favourite last season, thanks to his passion and enthusiasm. If he can recapture that form over the next couple of months then I think he will do another great job for us.

I think it is important to have consistency at the back, and now Mikkel's short term future has been sorted I am sure things will start to settle down.

Next up on the road is Oldham, and we seek to put this bad result behind us. Oldham have had a good start, and currently find themselves fourth in the table after picking up two wins and two draws in the league.

It will be another tough test for us, and the team are going to have to dig deep to find the confidence and commitment needed to win the game.

I still believe that if we can put this awful start behind us and start performing to our best we will do well this season.

There is still a long way to go, but things need to be put right quickly. I hope we can start the improvement on Saturday, and give you supporters something to cheer about.
