TROLLS - WE MUST CONTINUE THE GOOD FORM

Posted on: Thu 11 Mar 2010

Paul Trollope is hoping his team can extend the run that has seen them win four out of their last five games.

The confidence is back within the group and the manager wants the current motivation and application to continue.

Rovers have three games coming up in the next week, starting with Tranmere on Saturday, which could shape the rest of the season.

Trolls told bristolrovers.co.uk: "We had to work hard after the defeat at Orient, when there were a lot of issues and a lot of things wrong, but the players have responded to everything we have done.

"The spirit now is very, very good, there is a good confidence about the group as well, the results have been pleasing over the last four or five games.

"Our aim now is to continue that, we are in the home stretch of the season, we have got a big week coming up with three important games, and we are looking for a good points return.

"We suffered a sticky patch after a flying start, and expectations were raised after we were third for a long spell.

"Since then a few things have gone against us, we have suffered a few injuries, especially in 2010, but a few wins changes the mentality of the players and the supporters.

"We have started on a good run and it is important we continue it. We have to realise that we have been in the top 10 all season, which was the aim at the start of the year.

"We were hoping to have a shot at the play offs, we had one early, and now we are doing everything in our powers, and we are positive about having one late on - which is important."

Trolls believes that if everyone stays fit, then Rovers have a chance of getting back into the top six.

He said: "We have to be respectful to every team we come against, because some of them are fighting for their lives, and their motivation and application is going to be extremely high.

"If we can keep everyone fit and produce the application and motivation then we are capable of producing those results.

"The belief is there and there had been an excellent spirit, even when we have to dig deep in games.

"People are willing to put their bodies on the line to block shots, and get back and make tackles, and that is what you have to do to win any game of football at any level.

"At the other end of the pitch the movement and work ethic of Jo and Paul at the minute is exceptional, and that has got to continue as well.

"We have to make sure our motivation and commitment are of the same level we have seen against the top teams, that is the key to going on a run and getting back towards the play offs."

Tranmere have picked up some good results at home, but their away form has not helpd them pick up many points.

Trolls said: "They have picked up some good wins, especially at home. The manager has had a settled squad since he has been in charge, and they have picked up some good wins at home.

"We found it very difficult up there when they beat us. They are a different side away, but we still have to be respectful.

"It is about what we do and getting our own performance level to a consistency that we know will win games."

All the players who started against Swindon should be fit for Saturday.

Trolls said: "A couple of the players who played Saturday were rested early in the week to let a couple of niggles settle down, but most people are back today.

"Carl Regan is missing this morning with a bit of tendonitis on his knee and Mark Wright is missing with a virus and both of those are touch and go for the weekend."

And the manager hopes he can extend Daniel Jones' stay at Rovers until the end of the season.

He said: "We are in talks with Wolves, Daniel has enjoyed it, and we have enjoyed having him here. He has made a good impact in an attacking and defensive sense.

"His professionalism and mentality is just what we need Hopefully we can extends that as well."
