TROLLS LOOKING FOR PLAYERS TO STEP UP
Paul Trollope will be looking at his options for tonight as a number of the first team regulars struggle to overcome injury problems.
Chris Lines, Danny Coles and Aaron Lescott, who all missed Saturday's trip to the Banks's Stadium, are still doubtful, while Jeff Hughes and Carl Regan also picked up injuries during that game.
The manager is hoping that the rest of the squad, including the young players, will step forward and give a good account of themselves.
He told bristolrovers.co.uk: "We have got tired bodies and a few fresh injuries, which is not what we want at this time.
"I think the players, and hopefully the supporters, took a lot of confidence from what they saw on Saturday, however we are aware that football is about winning games, and that will be the aim tonight.
"We went there with the intention of winning, which didn't happen for one reason or another, but we are keen to get back to winning ways.
"The three that were missing, Chris Lines, Danny Coles and Aaron Lescott are all very, very doubtful still. Chris has got an outside chance but Danny and Aaron will be missing.
"We picked up a few other injuries. Carl Regan picked up a dead leg late in the game, he soldiered on for us which probably made the bleeding worse, so we are monitoring him and it is 50/50 at the moment. Jeff Hughes has a tight groin, which is frustrating for us.
"The versatility is going to be important to us. We have a few senior players who can play right-back, even though it is not their preferred position.
"Missing Danny is a frustration as we have slotted one of the centre halves there from time to time. Mark Cooper is progressing well through the youth team and Charlie Reece has played there on a couple of occasions.
"It is not an ideal situation, but sometimes people step up and show what they are about and take opportunities, and I have no worries about putting the kids in."
Trolls had some words of praise for the players who came back into the side on Saturday, most notably Dominic Blizzard.
He said: "A few players who have been frustrated took their chances on Saturday. Steve Elliott came back as if he had never been away and Dominic Blizzard showed all the quality we knew he had.
"I am really pleased for those two players as they have been sitting on the side lines frustrated, all players want to play, and they have waited for their chance and it has come along.
"Both performed to a very good level and they will be hoping to continue that. We like to pass the ball and that is exactly why Dominic was brought to the club.
"He is a player who can dictate the play, his movement, passing and awareness is excellent. The supporters who were at Walsall saw first hand why he was brought to the football club.
"There have been a few doubts about Dominic because of his injuries and illness and we have not really seen him. Chris Lines and Stuart Campbell have been playing well together and he has had to wait patiently.
"We worked hard to get his fitness where we think it should be and now the lad needs a run of games to continue what he started on Saturday."
And Trolls may hand a chance to some of the younger players in his squad.
He said: "If the injury list is added to tomorrow, may be it will be the chance for one or two younger players as well. We have got a good group of young players around 21 years old who are making good progress and I have no hesitation or worries about who I throw in.
"Ben Swallow and Charlie Reece have had a taste of the action and Charlie Clough is progressing nicely as well. We had a young bench Saturday, we will have young bench tonight, and if one or two have to step up to the plate it gives them an opportunity and it is up to them to take it."
Rovers take on Walsall for the second time in four days tonight, so both teams will know what to expect.
Trolls said: "Both managers and staff will know each other at first half, know each others strengths and weaknesses. It is on a different pitch, which could make a difference, especially in the final third.
"We are looking forward to getting back playing at home. Our last home performance was not good enough, it was a frustrating afternoon against one of the teams in the relegation zone.
"We want to get back to winning ways at home, and we do that by performing how we did on Saturday."
