New signing Carl Regan turned down the chance to stay with MK Dons because he was impressed with the vision of Rovers' management duo.

Right-back Regan was offered a new contract from his current club, but believes that Bristol Rovers match his ambitions to play at a higher level.

He visited the Memorial Stadium today and spoke to bristolrovers.co.uk.

He said: "I have played against Bristol Rovers over the years, and they have always been a good team to play against, and a good footballing side, so I am excited to join. I think we can push on from here.

"I have spoken to both Paul and Lennie, and I was very impressed with what they had to say to me, and they were a big part of the reason I decided to come here.

"Everyone at this level must have ambitions to play higher, and I know I do, and when I spoke to the manager and Lennie, they had ambitions to play higher as well so that was the aim.

"I think consistency is the key in this league, if we are consistent all season, there is a very good chance we will make the play-offs or go up."

Carl played against Bristol Rovers at stadium:mk on Easter Monday and was impressed with the side.

He was also involved in the play-off campaign where the Dons lost out to Scunthorpe on penalties.

He said: "It was a tight game, but penalties are penalties, anything can happen.

"It was a big disappointment, but as I say, I have got to pick myself up and go again this year, and I am sure MK Dons will do the same.

"I have learnt a lot from Paul Ince and Roberto DiMatteo at MK Dons. They both bring different things to the table,

"I have picked up a few things from both of them which I will add towards my experience, and I will bring that here to Bristol Rovers with me."

Carl will be a useful player for Rovers, as he is able to play anywhere across the back four.

He said: "Right back is my main position, but I have been known to play left back or centre half on occasion, so I will have no problem slotting in there if need be.

"I am looking forward to pre-season training, but I have been in the play-offs, so I have had an extra two weeks in so I am enjoying my rest at the minute."
