Posted on: Fri 29 May 2009

Training and recruitment company N-GAGED will be Bristol Rovers' home shirt sponsors for next season.

The new company, based in Longwell Green, were the first business to be pulled out of the velvet bag at this afternoon's shirt sponsorship draw.

Third prize - an advertisment hoarding at the ground - went to Guitarbiz, an online firm selling guitars, based in Frome.

Rovers came up with the draw as a unique way to tackle the credit crunch and give small businesses a fantastic opportunity to get involved with the club.

The draw appealed to a wide cross section of people, attracting attention from large national businesses right through to small local companies.

Stadium General Manager Ian Holtby said: "We would like to offer a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us on this, the response has been unbelievable, and we have raised an exceptional amount of money.

"The success of the draw has been beyond our wildest dreams. It has been three weeks of hard graft, but it has all been worth it.

"I would like to say a massive congratulations to the three lucky companies, and I look forward to welcoming everyone who entered the draw when they come along for their hospitality package."

Representatives from each company were invited to watch the draw, and were each given their own draw cube to put into the velvet bag.

N-GAGED provide training in the logistics industry in partnership with Filton College.

Managing Director of N-GAGED, Simon Arnold, collected the prize on behalf of the company.

He said: "We are delighted. We are a new business, set up in October, so the publicity this will generate is wonderful for us.

"Ian Holtby made us aware of the opportunity to enter the draw, and talked us into entering - and we are very pleased that he did!

"As a new business there was no way we could afford to be the sponsor as a one off payment, so this was a great opportunity."

Stevens Hewlett and Perkins, who specialise in intellectual property law, are a small firm of around 60 employees with offices in Bristol and London.

John Welfoot and season ticket holder Ian Smith from the firm were delighted to be drawn as away shirt sponsors.

Mr Welfoot, a trade mark attorney, said: "We heard about the promotion and as a lot of the people who work with us are Rovers fans, we thought the opportunity to support the team was fantastic.

"This exposure is going to increase our profile enormously - the media interest has been huge due to the unique nature of the scheme.

"We really value business in the local community extremely highly, and wanted to give something back.

"I am looking forward to seeing people walking around Bristol with our name on their shirts."

The three big winners were obviously delighted, but no one left empty handed. Everyone who entered the draw will receive a table for 10 in hospitality - worth £700 - plus a photograph with the team, and a signed football.
