LAMBERT THRILLED FOR DUFFY

Posted on: Mon 19 Jan 2009

Rickie Lambert was delighted to see Darryl Duffy back on the scoresheet in the 2-1 win over Leyton Orient at the weekend.

It was the first time the former Swansea City man had found the back of the net since the end of August, and his fourth goal in Rovers colours.

Rickie hopes the goal will help the striker kick-start his season, as the club prepares for a busy few weeks.

"I was made up for both Darryl and Jeff (Hughes) at the weekend," Rickie told bristolrovers.co.uk, "I think it was the first time I've seen Jeff hit the ball with his right foot for his goal.

"It was good for Darryl that he came on and scored the winner. He's been a bit frustrated because he hasn't started for a while, and he just wants to play and score goals.

"He's a brilliant striker and a good finisher, and he's just had to get his head down and wait for his chance to come.

"Jo Kuffour has been on fire, so it's made it harder for Darryl to win his place back, but on Saturday he showed what he can do, and all the lads were pleased for him."

Rovers take on Colchester United on Saturday and then face another home clash three days later against Cheltenham Town.

"We've done ok in our home games this season, but we want to try and get back to the form we were showing a couple of months ago," said Rickie.

"If we could win both these games that would be nine points from three matches, and just what we need. We're looking to push up the table, and if we can get a couple of results then we should move up a few places."
