A BIG WIN FOR US - TROLLS

Posted on: Sat 17 Jan 2009

Paul Trollope said today's 2-1 victory over Leyton Orient was a "big win" in the club's season.

The result was just the second time Rovers have won on their travels since the 2008/09 campaign began, and ended a 20-day period without any competitive action.

"It was a big win and an important one," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk, "I also think it was a deserved win, and had we been more clinical in the final third, it could have been even more convincing.

"We thought it was going to be interesting having not played for so long and with them having had a lot of matches of late, but it didn't count against us.

"I thought we were a goal or two better than them in the first half alone, and only a bit of bad luck and poor finishing kept the score at 0-0.

"They came out in the second half and increased the tempo, which we expected them to do. We didn't help ourselves with their goal, but we showed a good reaction afterwards to come back and win it."

Darryl Duffy grabbed the all-important winner, and Paul was pleased to see the summer signing on the scoresheet again.

"Darryl has been frustrated that he's not been starting games, and that by his own admission, he's not contributed as much as he'd like to have when he's gone on from the bench," said Paul.

"I'm pleased for him today, he was a threat for us and it was a good finish for his goal. His work ethic is very good, and he got his reward for that."

Rovers play host to Colchester United next weekend, and then Cheltenham Town three days later.

"We've had a break and we're fresh for it, and this is a good start to the year for us," he said, "Our mentality has been excellent over the last few weeks, and hopefully this result is a sign of things to come."
