Rovers reserves won 2-0 at Cheltenham in a hastily arranged friendly fixture at the Gloucestershire club's training ground this afternoon.

Triallist Richard Langley made the breakthrough just after half time, when he scored from close range following good work from Ben Hunt and Josh Klein-Davies.

Klein-Davies added the second on 68 minutes, when he glanced home following Adam Mahdi's left wing corner.

Steve Elliott and Langley provided the experience in an otherwise youthful lineup and the side, with Director of Football Lennie Lawrence in charge, knocked the ball around well and often outplayed a very experienced Cheltenham side.

It was a fairly even affair in the opening 45 minutes, though both sides had chances to take the lead.

Damian Spencer hit a shot straight at Mike Green only two minutes in, while Langley was unlucky not to score when his shot was turned round the post by Scott P Brown.

Klein- Davies hit an effort wide when well placed, while Josh Low and Gavin Caines wasted good opportunities for the home side and Green saved well from Low.

Although Rovers didn't quite match their opponents in terms of goal opportunities, they out passed Cheltenham for long spells and always looked more determined in the tackle.

They took the lead within a minute of the restart when Hunt found Klein-Davies out wide and took a return pass from his strike partner before slipping the ball to Langley, who fired home from close range.

Green did well to save at the feet of Caines before Rovers doubled their advantage when Klein-Davies was first to reach Mahdi's left wing corner and glanced the ball past Brown.

Although Cheltenham pushed men forward in an attempt to score at least a consolation goal, they were unable to pierce a well organised defence, ably supported by their colleagues in midfield and up front.

Apart from the result, it was good to see Elliott get through sixty minutes unscathed. He was tested by the experienced Lloyd Owusu, but looked sharp and almost back to full match fitness.
