Rickie Lambert is hoping his scoring run this season can go on and on.

The striker has already bagged 14 league goals this season, an average of over one a match.

He netted an incredible four times against Southend United at the weekend, and he's currently on track to break a long-standing club record.

"I couldn't believe it, everything I hit seemed to be going in," Rickie told bristolrovers.co.uk, "I was feeling confident, and every chance I had was ending up in the back of the net.

"The balls coming in were inch perfect, and I was confident before they even came into the box where they were going to go. When I scored the fourth I was laughing, everything I touched ended up in a goal. There were some brilliant deliveries, and it was a brilliant day.

"I haven't scored a hat-trick since I first started playing football, so once I scored the third I was surprised to have finally done that. I thought I had a chance of one after scoring my second, and once I did I was obviously delighted.

"I don't want to get carried away, because the run I've been on might not carry on for the rest of the season. But that's what I'm aiming for, and right now every match I start I feel confident I can score in."

The record for the highest number of league goals scored in a single season stands at 33, and Rickie would love to reach that milestone.

"I didn't know about the record, and that's a long way off," he said, "I'm just going to try and score in every game we play, and obviously if I get to 33 I'll be absolutely made up."

Next up for Rickie and Rovers is Leicester City away on Saturday, a game that will see the team with the meanest defence in the division host the team with the most prolific strikeforce.

"It's going to be one of the toughest games of the season, but I don't think there's a better time for us to be playing them," he said.

"Confidence hasn't been this high for a long time, and to beat Southend the way we did shows how good we are.

"I don't think any team will fancy playing us at the moment, and we'll go to Leicester looking to keep our run going and to try and win the game."
