Have you ever wondered why there aren't more celebrity Rovers fans?

Well local indie band The Chemists are hoping to change all that.

Kirsty Pugh caught up with bassist Wayne Jones to talk music, football and dead bodies.

How did the band get their name?
Well Johnny our singer and our guitarist Sam used to live together above the chemists on Ashley Down Road and the name came from that. I went to art college with Sam, and practically lived there myself. We spent a long time looking for a drummer, and eventually put an ad in a newsagents window - Matt replied that very afternoon. He put us in touch with Dave - the only non-Westcountry lad - who moved down from York to join the band.

Can you describe your music?
Well people would describe us as an indie band, but we have a whole mix of influences, I am into reggae and ska, but other members of the band like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Radiohead with a bit of Hip Hop and Drum and Bass thrown in for good measure.

What have been the high and low points of The Chemists so far?
The high point is just about to come up, as we are starting a two month tour on Saturday, where we will be supporting The Music and Feeder. The low points have been when we have found ourselves in a dinghy pub in the middle of nowhere, playing to one man and his dog. But I guess everywhere has to do that before they can become successful.

What is your connection to Rovers?
I was brought up a stones throw from the ground, so have always been a fan, and my cousin, Marcus Browning played for the Gas a few years ago. I used to go to Twerton Park all the time, and although I don't get to many games now because of band commitments, I still always follow Rovers results. Maybe one day I will be rich enough to put some money into the club.

Tell us something that not many people know about you?
We all have quite interesting day jobs. I remove dead bodies for a living, Johnny is a botanist and our guitarist is a pool shark and hustler.

The Chemists are Johnny Benn (Vocals), Sam James (Lead Guitar), Wayne Jones (Bass), Dave Betts (Rhythm Guitar) and Matt Albon (Drums).
