Chris Lines says Rovers can take heart from last weekend's 0-0 draw with Crewe Alexandra when they take on Colchester United tomorrow.

The midfielder believes the club's first clean sheet of the season will give the players confidence as they look to forget a terrible month of September.

Rovers didn't win a single match throughout that month, and Chris knows starting October in better form is critical.

"September wasn't that great, but we've had a couple of draws of late which has helped stopped the bad run," Chris told bristolrovers.co.uk, "We need to follow those up with a win this weekend which would boost us up the table a bit.

"We don't want to be hanging around the bottom four for much longer, it's still early doors and a few results either way can make a big different to your league position.

"If we win a few matches then all of a sudden we're in the top half of the table, but if we lose this weekend and the teams below us win, then we're right down the bottom. So it could go either way, and we need to make sure it goes the right way."

Colchester United moved from Layer Road to the Weston Homes Community Stadium in the summer, but haven't managed to win at their new home yet.

"It's a new ground, so that's something to look forward to," he said, "But they haven't won there yet, so we need to make sure we don't become the first side they beat.

"The clean sheet last weekend was a good building block for us, it was something we needed and gives us confidence going to Colchester.

"We're always capable of scoring goals, so if we can reproduce that kind of defensive display then I think it stands us in good stead."
